HELLO, HELLO!

INGREDIENTS: Semi-accurate diagrams about things that are not diagrammable, Existential Mushroom Comics, a Book-Review comic, and General Announcements.
NON-SCIENTIFICALLY ACCURATE DIAGRAMS:
An older one—though I really should try this every year—a snapshot of all the books I read (or at least started reading) across a year (2022 I think). The pie chart shows either the amount of head space it took to read the book, or else is related to the length of the book, I can’t recall. Of course, the proportions are completely arbitrary, the whole exercise is more about the fun of precision-painting tiny triangles with my favorite color scheme of the moment. I urge you to try it sometime!
EXISTENTIAL MUSHROOM COMICS:
Disclaimer: I haven’t written any complete chapters yet, very few of my ‘studies’ work even as standalone strips, and yet that isn’t getting in my way of diligent progressing at the pace of a snail traversing a river of molasses. Posting bits here is my way of remembering that this matters to me, and I’ll get to it when I can get to it.
This one features Shaggy Ink Cap (all of these are based on actual mushroom varieties)
Book Review Comic:
Collected short stories by Leonora Carrington: THE SEVENTH HORSE
It’s read-out-loud worthy, the best kind of dreamscape escapism with dashes of biting social commentary, and possibly a balm in times of insomnia (which is frequently my current reality). I can’t believe I never learned about her in art school, as she’s a prolific painter as well, but I’m making up for lost time now. I discovered the art of Leonora’s closest friend, Remedios Varo, and now I’m neck-deep in a research project about both of them—visiting Mexico City to see their work in person. More on that later!
Other titles by L. Carrington: THE HEARING TRUMPET, THE MILK OF DREAMS, and THE DOWN-BELOW: a memoir about the time she was committed to an insane asylum by her parents, after her lover and partner, Max Ernst, was taken to a concentration camp. ****If you are the type to dive into all the history, (like me), here’s an excellent book about her art and life: SURREAL SPACES.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
My new book is out! It’s about drawing, and how to think about drawing while drawing, (and also how to not over-think it). There will be exercises and intermissions and also baby donkeys. Find out about it here: DRAWING IS…
YOU MADE IT TO THE END:
Enjoy this baby donkey.

Wonderful drawings, as always. Mushrooms do seem to have distinct personalities :) I hope to get a copy of your book soon. I love leonora carrington's work too, and thank you for the baby donkey 😍❤️
Love all your mushrooms and the baby donkey too!
